Today was a bit of a lazy day and we started to truly understand the reason that Sicily follows a different schedule than the US. After trying to just power through the sun and heat for days we finally conceded and said we just can’t be out sightseeing in the blazing sun in the middle of the day. So, since the kids slept in a little we decided to just hang around the villa until mid afternoon. We enjoyed another day in the pool and spending time with family.
We did make another grocery run and the kids were amused to see a huge swordfish head in the middle of the fish counter. They seriously love their seafood around here!
Around 4ish we left the villa and went to Marza beach (which we had seen signs for each time we drove back to the villa). The beach was literally 2 mins down the road. When we got there it was completely empty. It’s a private beach that has a restaurant, some music and a bunch of beach chairs and tables. We laid our towels down and enjoyed the late afternoon and early evening weather. Just like all the other beaches, the water was incredibly warm and crystal clear. The water went out forever but didn’t get deep. Brooke built sand castles, Beckett wrecked them (to Brooke’s dismay) and we just relaxed.
By following this schedule it also aligned our dinner much better to the typical Sicilian dinner schedule. I think for the first time we were truly understanding how things work in Sicily.
After the kids went to bed, Jaclyn went for a run and explored the nearby farm roads. She enjoyed the run and the feeling of being out in the wide open farmland. We also understand a little more now why people don’t really run outside in Sicily during the summer. It’s just too hot regardless of the time of day.
We had a fun evening sitting outside and catching up with most of the family since some of them were catching flights in the morning and it was our last little night together on the trip.
